Essex County Council has secured around £750,000 to plant an additional 1,785 trees across the county.

The cash comes from two different sources - £647,356 from the Urban Tree Challenge Fund and £141,772 from the Local Authority Treescape Fund.

Cash from the Treescape Fund will be put towards 239 new trees in community orchards and habitats in the Essex countryside.

The Urban Tree Challenge cash will be used to plant over 1,500 saplings along streets in Tendring, Brentwood, Harlow, Chelmsford, Rochford, Castle Point and Braintree.

Essex County Council has already pledged to plant 375,000 over 150 hectares over the next five years.
