Police ask people to 'come home safely' after England's Euro 2020 semi-final match
Officers arrested 11 people for drink driving after England’s win on Saturday
Essex Police are asking people to make sure they are 'coming home safely' after the Euro 2020 semi-final match between England and Denmark tonight (7 July).
Over the weekend, officers arrested 22 people across Essex for drink driving, 11 of which came after England’s victory over Ukraine on Saturday night.
The force said there were also a number of collisions related to drink driving.
There will be focused patrols at key times tonight, with officers out and about on streets across the area from this afternoon and into the evening.
Adam Pipe, Head of Roads Policing at Essex Police, said:
"We will have a higher number of officers out in Essex on Wednesday evening and Thursday morning.
"If you are going out as a group, think about designating a driver, using a taxi or even just walking home from the pub.
"Also, please consider the morning after; alcohol stays in the system and it’s really important people recognise that for the morning after when we will also have officers out and about on the roads of Essex keeping you all safe and carrying out a number of roadside breath tests."
