Police investigating assault on player at Colchester match

The incident occurred during their win against Notts County on Saturday

Essex Police are investigating reports a Colchester United player was assaulted during their win over Notts County on Saturday.

They say they received a reporters a Colchester player was pushed by a Notts County supporter.

Police say "they're carrying out enquiries and liaising with both clubs regarding appropriate action."

In the hours after the game, the Colchester United FC police account wrote on X, formerly known as Twitter, that: "a player was assaulted by a supporter during the fixture and an investigation is now taking place."

The account also said they had received "reports of a racially aggravated offence".

Essex Police later confirmed this, saying: "a fan reported to security they had been racially abused and we are carrying out inquiries relating to this."

Essex Police are asking anyone with information to get in contact, quoting incident 396 of 30 September.

The U's won the game 5-4 - after two goals from Arthur Read, and strikes from Noah Chilvers, Jayden Fevrier and Cameron McGeehan.

Colchester United FC have been contacted for comment.
