Essex Police are investigating after a shop fire in Westcliff has been believed to have been started deliberately.
Officers were called to the scene on West Road in the early hours of yesterday morning, just after 1am, by Essex County Fire and Rescue.
The fire service has extinguished the fire which has spread towards the flats on the first floor of the building - which was evacuated.
Police officers have spoken with witnesses about their accounts and are appealing for anyone else who witnesses the incident or those with dashcam, doorbell of CCTV footage to get in touch, citing incident 52 of 20 June.
Essex Police's initial investigations have led to the belief that the fire was started intentionally.
