Police in Essex are warning locals about the rise of burglaries over the Christmas period, and what you can do to protect your home.

Essex Police recorded 610 burglaries in the county last December, marking the highest amount in 2021. Now, Roads Inspector for Essex Police, Matt Crow, says that people need to take precautions during the festivities:

"More people are at home and their houses are a bit more locked and secure because they want to keep the heating in," says Inspector Crow. "But actually they'll be out at Christmas parties and functions so there is that risk.

"There is temptation at this time of year for people to burgle houses. Always make sure you've locked your house up, try to leave a light on, and try to make it look like there's somebody in, even if there isn't."
