Specialist Police officers across Essex have been carrying out high visibility patrols and carrying out warrants across the county.

The Operational Support Group (OSG) are a specialist team who support other teams from across the force in carrying out activity which is vital to keep people safe and progress investigations.

This work can include conducting high visibility patrols, making arrest attempts, and carrying out warrants, as well as proactive patrols on our roads.

Yesterday (Saturday 6 January), the team carried out a drugs warrant in Saffron Walden leading to two arrests and proactive arrest attempts leading to an arrest for theft.

A man was arrested for drugs and offensive weapons offences after a vehicle made off from officers in Laindon.

Other vehicle stops led to drug driving and assault arrests.

Elsewhere, five vehicles were also seized due to licence and driving offences.

Detective Chief Inspector Ian Hughes said:

“This was a really productive day of activity and highlights the range of work the team undertakes.

“In the last three days the OSG has made 26 arrests, supporting a range of teams from across Essex Police and helping to progress investigations.

“It’s really important work and helps in our mission to get justice for victims and keep you safe.”
