He's been ordered to pay thousands in compensation
A man from Essex has been sentenced after stealing phones from pubs last year in south Norfolk.
37-year-old Daravin Stanescu, of Kingsley Walk, appeared at Norwich Magistrates’ court on Thursday 6th June charged with the thefts of two mobile phones from public houses in Thurton and Gillingham.
He pleaded guilty to both incidents, which took place on the evening of 26th June 2023.
Stanescu was arrested last week (Wednesday 5 June 2024) at Stansted Airport in connection with the incidents and taken to Wymondham Police Investigation Centre for questioning, before being charged and remanded into custody.
At court, he was ordered to pay a total of £1849 in compensation to the victims, a fine of £600 for the two offences and £205 in court costs and victim surcharges.
Investigating officer PC Berrisford said: “Distraction thefts can leave victims feeling targeted and vulnerable, and we encourage anyone to report incidents of this nature to us as soon as possible, via calling 999 for a crime in progress, or by making a report on our website.”
