PETA calls for roadside memorial after chickens die on A12
The charity has written to Essex County Council.
Animal rights group PETA has asked Essex County Council to install a memorial beside the A12 near Kelvedon, where a lorry carrying chickens caught fire on 9 October.
The group says the tribute would honour the birds that died and encourage people to consider going vegan to help prevent similar incidents.
In the letter Elisa Allen, Vice President of Programmes, said: A memorial would encourage people to reconsider eating the dead bodies of birds who have suffered, and remind everyone that the best way to avoid tragedies like this fire –which likely happened as gentle birds were trucked to their deaths at an abattoir – is to go vegan, sparing animals such terrifying journeys in the first place."
