Person killed by train at Witham station

A person has died after being hit and killed by a train in Essex this morning.

Services were disrupted by the incident at Witham station this morning, around 6:49am.

In a statement, British Transport Police said: “Officers were called to Witham railway station at around 6.49am today (11 June) following reports of a casualty on the tracks.

"Paramedics also attended, however sadly a person was pronounced dead at the scene. The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”

Greater Anglia services affected in and around the county have since resumed.
