Off-duty police officer charged with assaulting 14 year old in Brentwood

The Met Police officer is due to appear in court in Basildon later this week

A police officer has been charged with assaulting a 14-year-old while off duty.

Pc Paul Bewsey, from the Metropolitan Police Parliamentary and Diplomatic Protection Command, will appear at Basildon Magistrates' Court on Thursday accused of common assault on the teenager in Brentwood, Essex.

The Met said the charge relates to an "altercation" on April 21 this year in Hanging Hill Lane.

Bewsey, who was charged by postal requisition on October 21, is on restricted duties.
