Travelodge has revealed some of the “bizarre” items left behind by visitors to its hotels in Essex.

Among things to have made it into the lost and found offices of the sites in Chelmsford and Colchester Feering are a diary belonging to a nurse and a stamp collection.

Staff have revealed the list of things left by customers over the past 12 months as they try to reunite them with their owners.

The list of unusual things left at Travelodge sites across the country include:

• A money tree with £50 notes wrapped onto the branches at Birmingham Central Bullring

• A Swarovski crown at Bradford Central

• 60 year old marriage certificate at Cardiff Atlantic Wharf

• A handwritten family recipe book at Cardiff Central

• A 6 foot Polar Bear (stuffed toy) at Edinburgh Central PLUS

• Two first class tickets to the Maldives at Gatwick Airport Central PLUS

• A baby grand piano at Great Yarmouth

• Six 6ft Nutcracker soldiers at Leamington Spa

• Life size R2-D2 at Leeds Central

• A 50 year old football sticker book at Liverpool Central Exchange Street

• A diamond encrusted saree at Liverpool Edge Lane

• £500,000 worth of share certificates at London Bank

• A philosophy, politics and economics degree from Oxford university at Oxford Abingdon Road

• A William Shakespeare Outfit and Skull at Stratford Upon Avon

• A message in a bottle with a wedding proposal inside at Torquay

• A set of miniature hot air balloons at York Central Micklegate PLUS
