Clacton's MP is saying 'no' to vaccine passports.

Giles Watling has said introducing the measure is not something he can support and he'll be voting against it next week.

The Conservative has taken to social media to outline where he stands on the Prime Minister's Plan B announcement.

He said:

"Firstly, I can accept that some protections need to be in place whilst we investigate the Omicron variant, and the option to work from home is a sensible measure to put in place at this time. However, as I have said previously, I cannot support vaccine passports and I will not be voting for them next week.

"Secondly, I do understand the concerns of residents following news reports about Downing Street gatherings last Christmas. I am assured by colleagues that Covid guidance has been followed at all times in Downing Street. However, the Prime Minister has now asked the Cabinet Secretary to thoroughly investigate this matter and I hope that we will quickly see the results of that investigation.

"Should any contravention of the rules be uncovered, I believe that it should be called out and those responsible punished. As with the case of Dominic Cummings, these incidents damage public trust and make compliance with the Covid regulations less likely, which makes our collective response to this pandemic more difficult.

"Politicians need to build trust with the public, to do our jobs effectively. With that in mind, be assured that I take the guidance very seriously and follow it rigorously."
