New film showcases Colchester's heritage, countryside and coast
It comes as the town celebrates English Tourism Week
A short film has been released to showcase Colchester's heritage, countryside and coast.
It has been produced by Visit Colchester and aims to attract new visitors, and welcome back those returning to the area again.
It comes as this week (22 to 31 May) marks English Tourism Week, which recognises the tourism industry at a time when it is looking to recover from the impact of COVID-19.
As restrictions begin to lift, the team at Visit Colchester are reportedly "ramping up" the promotion of the town.
From Colchester Castle, the Roman Walls and St Botolph's Priory to visitor destinations such as Mersea Island and the Dedham Vale, the area is said to have a huge amount to offer, for a day trip or an extended break.
There is also a programme celebrating the tenth anniversary of the Firstsite gallery, as well as the reopening of The Mercury Theatre in June following a multi-million-pound redevelopment.
Councillor Darius Laws, Colchester Borough Council's Portfolio Holder for Economy, Business and Heritage, told Greatest Hits Radio Essex:
"We're really conscious that people will start to be thinking about maybe taking long weekends and city breaks, and we believe that Colchester is a fantastic destination to come and explore.
"We have a rich and diverse range of heritage, of culture, of fantastic restaurants and hotels to suit all budgets.
"It really is a great place to come and visit.
"It's the kind of place that you can walk down the street and people will smile at you.
"I think as people begin to find their confidence to start visiting theatre, cinema and going to art galleries and restaurants again, I think we've got a really exciting opportunity this summer to welcome people here and showcase all that Colchester has to offer."
People can find out more here.
Visitors are also being reassured that all attractions and businesses across the borough are complying with Government guidelines and putting the safety of visitors first.
