Mr Motivator will be getting care home residents moving across Essex this morning (23 April).

He will be streaming a workout session into more than 70 residential homes across the county at 10.30am.

The event, which will repeat at the end of June, has been organised in association with Colchester Borough Council, the Essex FaNs Network and Mr Motivators' The Motivation Club.

Today's session is a test pilot event and, if successful, will be rolled out to other care homes across the county.

Mr Motivator, who's real name is Derrick Evans MBE, said:

"Your wellbeing is a way of life. The most important thing you can have is an independent, healthier you. You must not underestimate the impact that exercise can have on your mental and physical wellbeing.

"There is a curative power to exercise and those who are least active stand to benefit the most from their health and happiness."

Tony Lee, Community Networks Lead for Essex FaNs, added:

"They residents are super excited about it. There are care homes that have got big foam fingers they can't wait to show Derrick online. There's fancy leotards, we've got activity coordinators and managers in bright day-glow head bands, sweat bands and leg warmers. They are all absolutely pumped."

The Motivator's Club, which helped arrange the event, is aimed at people of all ages and fitness levels, and includes advice on sensible eating, mental fitness and combating loneliness.

It's hope family members of care home residents will be able to join in with the second event planned in June, if coronavirus restrictions allow.
