£25,000 has been set aside to support people in Rochford affected by the war in Ukraine.

This will go towards supporting refugees, and the local community in Rochford, who are helping them settle in to the area.

Rochford District Council have already donated £5000 to their community partner, The Community Hub at the MegaCentre in Rayleigh, who've already transported 60 tonnes of essential supplies to those in need.

The other £20,000 will go towards providing a top up of financial support for local households who take in families from Ukraine.

They hope to be able to provide a top up of £100 per household for a 3-month period but say they'll provide more information when further details about the national sponsorship scheme are announced.

Leader of Rochford District Council, Councillor Simon Wootton, said: “I am proud of the generosity and support our residents have shown to the Ukrainian people in their hour of need. The Council is now looking at what we can do to ensure that local people who open their homes to a Ukrainian family are supported in their efforts.”
