More than 10,000 pounds has been raised for the family of Freddie Farrow, who died following an incident in a high street shop in Colchester.

The Colchester Community Group set up a fundraiser on GoFundMe, with an initial target of 500 pounds.

More than 300 people have already donated to the fundraiser, which will stay open until 6pm today.

Freddie, who was five years old, was in Fenwick when he was struck by a mirror on 27 July.

After fighting for his life in hospital over the following days, he sadly died from his injuries on 2 August.

In a tribute released on Tuesday, Freddie’s mother Natasha Ingham thanked the people who came to his help the day of the accident, and the outpouring of support from the community.

She said: “He will never leave us. He will be with us every single day throughout all our lives - until we see him again.’

“He was such a lovely little boy – and very cheeky in a lot of ways.

“He used to pick me flowers every day – it could have been daisies or whatever he could get his hands on – and give them to me and tell me he loved me and I would tell him I loved him back.”

Polly Bradford, the Head of School at Gosbecks Primary School, said:

“Freddie was a little star. His sensitive and caring nature shone through with his friends, who he always looked out and cared for. He was a sweet natured boy who was always polite and well-mannered with everyone he came across in school.”
