A new song has been released in Essex to encourage mental health conversation among young people.

‘With a Little Kindness’ was written and produced by Multi-Schools Ambassador Justine Harrington, who worked with children to create a message that they wanted to spread.

Kierran Pearce, Multi Schools Council Lead, said:

"Music is a great medium to connect people all around the world. We know during Covid, when we were all apart, music was something that could still connect people."

The song will be used as the official soundtrack for the Trauma Perceptive Practice (TPP) approach being rolled out across Essex, to train staff to be more aware of trauma and its impact on mental health.

Justine told us it was important for her to incorporate the children’s personalities into the song.

She said: ‘To work with the performers, it’s like listening to something come to life. It’s beautiful to see the confidence levels go up as you work with each individual child and to see the song take shape.’

Their goal is for all educational settings to learn the song to encourage communication about mental health issues between children, parents and teachers.

Justice said:

"We just really hope this will inspire people to think before they speak and act with a bit of love, compassion and kindness, because that will make the world a much better place."

Kierran added:

"We want to make children confident enough to talk about their mental health so we understand that we can be more open about how we feel and it’s okay to talk about it, then actually that will support the next generation growing up that will hopefully be in better shape with their mental health."

The full album will be released on Tuesday 28 September.
