A man has been treated for burns after a garage fire in Layer Marney.

Firefighters were called to the blaze on Stock House Road at around 4.40pm today (7 May).

On arrival, crews reported the fire had quickly spread from the garage to an outbuilding.

Incident Commander Dan Partridge said:

"Tiptree's crew arrived at the scene first and worked hard to stop the fire from spreading.

"The garage contained two cars as well as LPG cylinders and an LPG bullet tank, but thanks to the quick action of the crew, the scene was made safe to tackle the fire."

Crews from Colchester and Tollesbury joined Tiptree's crew and extinguished the fire by 6pm.

The buildings have been completely destroyed by the fire, and one man was treated for burns at the scene.

Officers will now carry out an investigation into the cause.
