Man rescued after fire in block of flats in Colchester

It happened in the stairwell of a three storey block of flats

A man has been rescued by firefighters after a fire in a block of flats in Colchester today (3 June).

Fire crews reported the stairwell of a three storey block of flats in Dorchester End was heavily smoke logged.

They rescued a man from inside, who suffered smoke inhalation.

He was given oxygen therapy and left in the care of the ambulance service.

Firefighters put out the fire by 4.20pm.

An investigation into the cause of the blaze will be carried out.

Station Manager Danny Partridge, Incident Commander said:

"Crews responded quickly to extinguish this fire and we'd like to thank the residents for their co-operation while we put this fire out."
