Curtis Elliot pulled his car up next to where the victim was walking along Woodlands Close and threatened to kill her, before pointing an air rifle at her.

He shot her in the shoulder as she ran away, causing a puncture wound, before reversing up the road and chasing her on foot.

Elliot then threw her to the ground, punched her and deliberately broke her phone.

A member of public then came to help the victim, when the attacker returned to his car to collect his weapon and pointed it back at the victim.

He then got back in his car and drove to Burrs Road where he confronted three acquaintances with the weapon.

Elliot then handed himself in to police and was charged.

On 25th August, he admitted two counts of possessing a firearm with intent to cause fear of violence, assault occasioning actual bodily harm, making threats to kill, and criminal damage at Chelmsford Crown Court.

The 23-year-old, formerly of Woodford Close, was jailed for four-and-a-half years on 24th November.

Investigating officer PC Louise Everitt said: "This was a terrifying situation where Elliott put people in fear for their lives.

"He shot his former partner in a premeditated and deliberate way, all because he could not accept she had ended their relationship.

"The judge described the attack as disgraceful and terrifying, and this sentence reflects just how serious and abhorrent Elliott’s behaviour was."
