Man jailed for killing woman in Colchester crash
He left a 39-year-old Linda Franklin to die in the road
A man has been jailed for over four years following a fatal crash in Colchester.
David Jankovic failed to give way as he approached the junction of Charles Pell Road and Avon Way, causing another vehicle to crash his silver Audi A3.
Linda Franklin was a passenger in the vehicle when it crashed at around 6pm on 27 August 2020.
The impact of the collision caused the front passenger door to open and the 39-year-old fell into the path of another vehicle.
Jankovic, who's 23 and of Hakewill Way, drove away from the scene.
Officers received a report a short time later from a member of public who spotted the damaged vehicle in Davey Close.
An investigation was able to identify Jankovic as the registered driver and place his phone at both the scene of the collision and where the car was abandoned.
He was arrested the following day and sentenced to four years and two months in prison on 23 February at Ipswich Crown Court.
Investigating officer, Detective Constable Martyn Wells, of the Serious Collision Investigation Unit, said: "David Jankovic’s reckless actions led to the death of Linda Franklin.
"Not only was his driving dangerous but he after Linda had fallen out of the vehicle, he didn’t even stop to see if she was ok.
"Instead, he left her to die in the road.
"He is clearly a danger to other road users and will spend the foreseeable future behind bars.
"No sentence will ever bring Linda back but I hope this result will help them to move forward."
Jankovic was also banned from driving for seven years and will have to take and extended re-test.
