A man has been jailed for four years after driving his car over an injured man on Brentwood High Street.

28 year old Martin Stokes, of no fixed address, was arrested last year in London having been on the run for five years.

It comes after a 5 year investigation into what happened outside the Sugar Hut nightclub in the early hours of the morning on 2nd April 2017.

Stokes admitted to causing actual bodily harm and serious injury by dangerous driving, after running over the victim, then aged in his 20s, who was laying in the road having been knocked out after being involved in a large-scale disturbance.

As a result of Stokes’ actions, the man was severely injured and only emergency treatment at the scene could save his life.

Stokes was arrested last year, having been on the run since 2017

Two other people, who were tending to the man on the ground, were also hit, but their injuries were not serious.

He was found not guilty of attempted murder and GBH with intent.

Stokes is the eleventh person to be convicted in connection with this incident.

Eight men admitted affray in 2019 and were given suspended prison sentences, fined and were ordered to complete unpaid work totalling 880 hours.

In December 2018 two men were also fined and ordered to carry out unpaid work for affray.
