Man jailed after 'brutal' attack on victim in Tendring
The victim was brutally beaten with metal poles and dumbbells.
A man has been jailed for seven years after beating up a stranger in Tendring, leaving him in hospital for three weeks.
Danny Blueyes, 43 and of Second Avenue in Walton-on-the-Naze, was sentenced at Chelmsford Crown Court today after admitting to inflicting grievous bodily harm with intent.
He was involved in an attack on a man on January 2 last year, along with 46-year-old Paul Joseph, of Austin Avenue, Jaywick, and Joseph Bennett, 55, of Yarmouth Road, Norwich.
Both co-defendents died before they could be brought to justice.
The victim was targeted in retaliation for an alleged theft and was abducted while walking through Clacton Town Centre.
He was brutally beaten with metal poles and dumbbells, before being left seriously injured in a layby on the B1035 near Lawford. He was later helped by a passing motorist.
Blueyes must serve two thirds of his sentence before being eligible for release. He will spend four years on licence.
Detective Sergeant Richard English, of Essex Police, said: “Blueyes gleefully took part in this attack simply because he could, and he has left the victim with emotional and physical scars for the rest of his life.
"Although Blueyes was not present at the layby where the victim was abandoned, he took part in the brutal and sustained beating, which has left the victim – who was a complete stranger to him – changed forever.
“He bragged about his actions to neighbours because he wanted to be seen as someone who was above the law, but justice has been served today.
“I am glad that Judge Christopher Morgan saw Blueyes for the danger that he is, and declared him so, meaning that he must serve years behind bars before he is eligible for release.”
