Man in life threatening condition following Chelmsford assault

Police are asking witnesses to the incident on the High Street to come forward

A man's in a life-threatening condition following an assault in Chelmsford.

Police were called to reports a man had been punched, before falling back and hitting his head on the pavement, shortly before midnight on Friday 25 October.

He suffered a serious head injury and remains in hospital in a life-threatening condition.

An 18-year-old man, from Billericay, remains in custody for questioning on suspicion of assault occasioning grievous bodily harm.

Officers are asking for any witnesses to the incident to come forwards.

Detective Sergeant Paul Olney said:

“A man remains in a serious condition in hospital and our priority is establishing exactly what happened in the moments before, during and after this incident.

“His family are being supported.

“We believe there may have been a number of people passing or in the area at the time of this assault. We want to hear from you.”
