A man from Dunmow has been found guilty of raping a woman after a night out in November 2018.

Thirty-two year-old Rory Miles was arrested after it was alleged he sexually assaulted a woman at an address in the town.

Miles was charged with rape and the woman was supported by specialist officers from Essex Police Adult Sexual Abuse Investigation Team.

He denied the charge and stood trial at Chelmsford Crown Court on Wednesday (8 February), where he was found guilty.

Investigating officer Detective Constable Jon Nottage said: “Rory Miles took advantage of the woman and forced himself on her for his own gratification, showing no regard of how she felt and the affect it would have on her.

“During interview he claimed the sexual contact was consensual, and maintained this stance, putting the woman through a trial, thankfully the jury saw through his lies.

“I want to praise the courage demonstrated by the woman who came forward and reported what had happened to her, along with her incredible strength she has shown throughout this process.

“I hope this conviction will help her to move forward.”

Miles is due to be sentenced on 27 March at Chelmsford Crown Court.
