Man faces 29 charges in Colchester investigation spanning 40 years
Police have brought three more charges against Duncan Edwards
A man who is facing trial for 26 offences, including 12 counts of rape, has now been charged with three more offences.
As part of a separate investigation into an assault in Colchester in 2014, police received reports of alleged offences, which took place over the last 40 years.
As a result of the investigations which ensued, Duncan Edwards, 62, of Swan Grove, Chappel, was charged with the 26 offences.
Officers are continuing to investigate the additional reports made to us and on Tuesday 9 September, Edwards, whose former name is Duncan Diggle and previously of addresses in the Farnworth area of Bolton, Greater Manchester, was further charged with one count of rape and two counts of indecent assault.
In total, he now faces 29 charges.
He is due to appear at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court tomorrow, Friday 12 September.
Detective Inspector Lydia George, who’s in charge of the investigation, said: “We’re working at substantial pace through all the information which has been reported to us, and I would continue to urge anyone with any information to contact us via the Major Incident Public Portal and the investigation team will provide you with any specialist support required.”
