Man charged with Murder in Leigh-on-sea

A woman in her sixties died, after being found with serious injuries in Whitehouse meadows

Detectives have charged a 54-year-old man with murder following the death of a woman in Leigh-on-Sea.

Police were called to Whitehouse Meadows, Leigh-on-Sea at around 9pm on Tuesday 7 November following a report of an assault.

When police attended, they located a woman who had sustained serious injuries in the garden of a property.

Despite the best efforts of paramedics at the scene, the woman aged 60s was declared dead.

Kevin Shepherd, 54 of Whitehouse Meadows, Leigh-on-Sea, will appear at Southend-on-Sea Magistrates’ Court today, Thursday 9 November, charged with murder.

Detective Chief Inspector Terry Balding, who leads the investigation, said: “We have worked quickly and hard to progress this investigation which has resulted in a charge overnight.

“We would like to reassure the community that it is an isolated incident, and there remains no threat to the wider community.

“I continue to appeal for anyone with information or footage that could help our investigation, to please get in touch using our dedicated online portal.”
