Man charged after several reports of shoplifting from Essex Co-op

The 40-year-old's also been charged with using threatening behaviour to cause harassment, alarm or distress

A 40-year-old man has been charged with nine counts of theft, as part of a shoplifting investigation by Essex Police.

Jay Rank, of Mumford Road in West Bergholt, was also charged with a count of using threatening behaviour to cause harassment, alarm or distress.

The incidents of shoplifting were reported to the force between September and October, and took place at the Co-op on Chapel Street in West Bergholt.

Chief Inspector Colin Cox: “This investigation has been a joint piece of work by Colchester Local Policing Team and our Business Crime Team, who focus on preventing and investigating crime against businesses in Essex.

“Shoplifting remains a priority and as a force, we are very conscious about the effects these crimes have on local businesses.”

He is due to appear at Chelmsford Magistrates Court today (October 10).
