A man's been arrested on suspicion of attempted murder after a man was assaulted in Westcliff.

Essex Police were called last night just before 10pm to the Toby Carvery in Prince Avenue, where a man was found injured with serious injuries to his neck.

They aren't believed to be life-threatening.

Within 10 minutes of being called, Essex Police arrested the suspect at the scene on suspicion of attempted murder, causing grievous bodily harm with intent, and the possession of an offensive weapon.

The 53-year-old is in custody.

Inspector Michael Peterson said: “We would like to reassure people in Westcliff that this is an isolated incident and we are not seeking anyone else in connection with last night’s suspected assault.

“This was a busy pub and we believe there may be several people who witnessed what happened last night and may be able to help us with our investigation.

“It doesn’t matter how small a detail – we want to hear from anyone who can help us establish the facts of last night.”
