A man in his 50s has been arrested after reports of a man on a bridge over the A12 yesterday, which led to the road being closed for several hours.

Essex Police were called to reports of concern for a man who was on the bridge just after 11:15am yesterday (October 10).

They had got the man down and could reopen the road at around 4:50pm, after several hours of resolving the incident.

Officers say it was essential the road was closed for "the safety of all those involved, including road users".

The man in his 50s has been arrested on suspicion of intentionally and recklessly causing a public nuisance and is in custody.
