A 23-year-old man has appeared in court, charged with the attempted murder of two Essex Police Officers.

Declan Diedrick, of Hull Grove, was charged with two counts of attempted murder and a count of possession of a knife after the incident in Harlow on Friday (December 29).

Officers were called to concerns for the welfare of a man in Hull Grove just after 5:45pm on Friday, where they then engaged with a man at the scene who was making threats whilst armed with a knife.

One female officer suffered a wound to her head and was taken to hospital for treatment.

She was later discharged, the second officer didn't need treatment, and both are receiving support from the force.

Diedrick appeared at Chelmsford Magistrates’ Court yesterday, (January 1) and spoke only to confirm his name and date of birth. He was not asked to enter any pleas.

He was remanded into custody and is next due to appear at Chelmsford Crown Court on Wednesday 3 January.
