The trial of a security officer accused of plotting to kidnap, rape, and murder TV presenter Holly Willoughby has commenced at Chelmsford Crown Court.

Gavin Plumb, 37, from Harlow, Essex, faces multiple serious charges related to the alleged conspiracy.

The prosecution alleges that Plumb devised a "detailed plan" for the crimes, including soliciting another individual from the United States to assist in carrying out the plot.

Prosecutor Alison Morgan detailed how Plumb communicated online with what he believed to be a fellow conspirator, who turned out to be an undercover police officer.

Morgan explained to the jury that Plumb’s plans were "graphic and obviously sexually motivated," describing them as the result of a long-term obsession with Willoughby.

She emphasized that Plumb's intentions were real and not merely the "ramblings of a fantasist."

The charges against Plumb include soliciting murder, encouraging kidnap, and encouraging rape.

According to the prosecution, Plumb allegedly assembled a "restraint kit" and developed a plan with the undercover officer to break into Willoughby’s home, incapacitate her, and restrict her freedom.

Plumb has pleaded not guilty to all charges.

The court heard that Plumb was arrested before he could execute his plan or reach Willoughby’s residence with the equipment he had prepared.

Willoughby has chosen to waive her right to anonymity, a decision she confirmed in a signed statement.

The trial, expected to last no more than two weeks, continues with the prosecution outlining the evidence against Plumb.
