Maldon residents may now be eligible for flexible plastic recycling
If you see a sticker on your bin, you may be eligible
Maldon District Council is rolling out its plastic bags and wrapping recycling scheme to more residents across the area.
By March 2026, a sticker should have been spotted on resident's bins, as the expansion takes place.
This new service will allow residents to recycle the following items in their pink recycling sacks:
- Â Fruit and vegetable net bags.
- Bubble wrap and cling film.Â
- Removable film lids and plastic sleeves from bottles and jars.Â
- Detergent and cleaning pouches. Â
- Multipack wrapping, toilet and kitchen roll wrapping, and magazine and newspaper wrapping.Â
- Cheese, fish, and meat wrapping.Â
- Crisp packets, snack packets, and coffee bags. Â
- Chocolate, sweets, biscuits, cakes, ice cream, and chewing gum wrappers.Â
- Carrier bags, salad/fruit/vegetable bags, frozen food bags, bread bags, cereal bags, and flower bags.Â
Residents are advised not to put plastic bags and wrapping into their recycling until they have received a sticker on their bin.
Council Leader Richard Siddal said:
"I think it's fantastic, and we can only do it in partnership with our residents.
"We work really well with our residents in terms of these schemes, and that is the thing that makes it a success.
"All I can say on behalf of the council is thanks to the residents in terms of engaging with us and working with us to enable this to happen.
"So as soon as residents get their sticker, they can start using their pink sacks, and it's using the pink sacks to put their flexible plastic in.
"So at the moment we are collecting 15,000 bags every single month. So as soon as we start rolling it out right across the district, the amount that we're going to be collecting in terms of that bulk, in terms of all that plastic.
"And the great thing is, residents really want this. So they can't wait to be involved in the scheme. That's the feedback that we've got. They're really excited about this opportunity."
