Major disruption on M11 after overnight collision
National Highways said the crash happened just after Junction 5 for Chigwell in the early hours of the morning
Drivers heading towards London on the M11 are facing long delays today (24 September) after an overnight collision left the southbound carriageway heavily affected.
National Highways said the crash happened just after Junction 5 for Chigwell in the early hours of the morning.
All three lanes were damaged and will require resurfacing, with traffic currently running on the hard shoulder.
The incident has caused severe congestion, with delays of more than 60 minutes and queues stretching back to the M25.
National Highways warned that the southbound M11 between Junction 6 (M25) and Junction 4 (A406 North Circular) will be closed later today to allow resurfacing work to be carried out.
A spokesperson said: “The M11 southbound remains heavily affected between J6 (M25) and J4 (A406) following an overnight collision just after J5 (Chigwell). The plan is to close the M11 between J6 and J4 later this morning to allow resurfacing works to be carried out. We will let you know.”
Motorists have been advised to seek alternative routes and plan ahead, with disruption expected to last throughout the day.
For further updates, drivers are urged to check the National Highways website and social media channels before travelling.
