A budgie which was found lost in Southend Victoria station by transport police officers has made his way home, after a 'short but eventful stay'.

In a tweet, officers said 'PB Barry' has stepped back from active duty. The avian officer came to the attention of senior police officers in his short career and his story was widely shared on social media.

Barry was found by officers in the car park of Southend Victoria station in the wake of the storms which hit the country last week.

Police officers made a nest for him in a cardboard box and took to social media to find his owners earlier this week

He was later bought a bigger cage for his stay at a local police station.

However, his rightful owner has now come forward and Barry is settling into life back home.

BTP Essex said paid tribute:

"Well done Barry, enjoy your time back at home with your owner & thank you for your service."
