A lorry driver who fell asleep whilst driving on the A12 has he pleaded guilty to driving without due care.

Mihai-florentin Bauer of Hartside Road, Sunderland was involved in the collision on February 9th.

The 44-year-old was issued with 9 penalty points and fined £600 and costs.

Roads Policing Unit Sergeant Chris Bramhill said:

Driving any vehicle takes concentration to handle the mechanics of your car or lorry, to read the road and respond to any developing situation.

We’d encourage any driver to think about their safety before they set off.

If you are already too tired to drive, don’t. It doesn’t bear thinking about if you cause a collision and someone is seriously injured or worse.

Professional drivers’ hours are governed by law so as to prevent driving tired, and we will always ensure that the law is carried out to uphold road safety for all our road users.
