A boy from Essex has been chosen to perform alongside the Ukrainian National Opera in a production of Puccini's Madame Butterfly.
Edward Voce, who is only five years old, has been selected perform in the production that is coming to Clacton on 26 March.
Edward will play the role of 'Sorrow' which is the son of Madame Butterfly, and will be his debut role after being a student at stagecoach for just over a year.
The Dnipro Opera was established in Ukraine in 1974, and also features a 30 piece orchestra.
Amande Concerts, who organises the Ukrainian operas across the UK, has highlighted the difficulties facing both the production and the performers due to the Ukraine invasion last Feburary.
"The journey has been extremely challenging, but I am glad we have overcome the many extraordinary obstacles and have now received all the necessary visas and clearances for the Ukrainian artists," says the production company. "The cast has been rehearsing vigorously over the last five weeks, and will continue to do so until the very moment when they will be leaving for the UK. We in the production office are now fully focused on marketing these operas and raising awareness."
