Libraries in Essex are helping people keep warm this winter
They're also offering advice sessions, craft activities and homework clubs
Libraries in Essex have launched a 'Warm Welcomes' initiative, offering a safe space for locals all year round to stay warm and stay connected amidst the cost of living crisis.
Extra clubs and activities will also be taking place which will include craft activities and homework clubs, as well as advice on employment and skills training opportunities.
In addition to library staff helping facilitate activities, the initiative will also see the recruitment of Warm Welcomes volunteers, who will be on hand to offer advice and guidance to those in need, and run activities, clubs and events.
Councillor Louise Mckinlay from Essex County Council said: "Libraries are obviously across the whole county, so they are a good location to encourage people to come in and get that additional support this winter.
"We speak regularly and work very closely with families across the county and many of them have obviously experienced pressures which have been much greater of late. So, through those conversations, the need is there. The need is up and down the country."
She also said: " It was about recognising that each area will be different, and that people's individual circumstances will vary. So not just thinking about this as one solution but what is it as a county council we can do, but also thinking about what it is that we are doing already, particularly in this case with the library service and how we can build on that offer to give people some alternative options for the winter months."
