Leigh-on-Sea fire started accidentally
No1 Cockleshed was evacuated
Essex Country Fire and Rescue Service have confirmed a fire at a restaurant on Leigh-on-Sea was started accidentally.
Yesterday (July 2) fire crews were called to the High Street where firefighters reported a fire in a storage area.
No1 Cockleshed was evacuated and gas cannisters were reportedly close to the area of the fire.
A statement from ECFRS said:
"Firefighters from Leigh and Rayleigh Weir were called to a property on Leigh-on-Sea High Street at 1.36pm this afternoon. On arrival firefighters reported that there was a fire in a storage area. Firefighters quickly tackled the fire and extinguished it just before 2pm. The cause has been recorded as accidental."
No1 Cockleshed later posted to their Facebook to say they were closed for the afternoon due to a fire 'at the back' of the restaurant.
