Knife-carrying youth chased down and arrested
There has been a 9% reduction in knife-enabled crime year-on-year
A youth on an e-bike who tried to evade officers in Clacton was found to be carrying a knife and suspected Class A drugs.
He was wanted on suspicion of possession of an offensive weapon and was spotted riding on the streets by officers from our Operational Support Group (OSG) following a check at an address he was linked to.
The youth attempted to ride off but was apprehended following a scuffle. An initial search uncovered a lock knife, a quantity of suspected Class A and Class B drugs, three mobile phones and cash. The e-bike was seized.
He was arrested on suspicion of possession of Class A and Class B drugs with intent to supply, and possession of a bladed article.
Further searches in custody revealed more suspected Class A drugs concealed on his person.

In Essex, there has been a 9% reduction in knife-enabled crime year-on-year. That’s 135 fewer incidents. Since 2019, incidents of knife-enabled crime have fallen by 16%.
