Essex Police making "good progress" into Jaywick dog attack as 39-year-old released on bail
The man was arrested on suspicion of dangerous dog offences
Essex Police have opened a portal for information following the death of a 68-year-old woman in Jaywick.
Esther Martin is believed to have been attacked by two dogs on Saturday afternoon in a house in Hillman Avenue.
The dogs, who's breeds are yet to have been confirmed, were destroyed at the scene when police arrived and entered the house.
In an updated statement, police say they're making "good progress" into their investigation, and have now opened a portal for information which can be found here.
A 39 year-old man, who has been arrested on suspicion of dangerous dog offences, has been released on conditional bail until 5 March.
Acting Detective Superintendent Stuart Truss said: “We’re making good progress in our investigation into Esther’s death.
“It is an investigation with a number of complexities, but we are determined to give Esther’s family the answers they need.
“We are working with experts to confirm the breed of the dogs. This may take some days but it’s really important we get it right.
“I would ask people not to speculate about this element - we will establish the facts and we will keep the community in Jaywick updated.”
He added: “We’re continuing to support Esther’s family. They have been asked to be able to grieve in peace”.
Speaking yesterday to the media, Chief Superintendent Glen Pavelin praised the actions of the responding officers and members of the public who tried to help Ms Martin, saying the local people "should be proud" and has commended the "unflinching bravery" of locals and Police officers who attended the scene.
