Police discovered 37 dead animals at a property in the Crays Hill area

Essex Police are continuing their investigation into the discovery of dog remains in Billericay.

Officers uncovered the remains of 37 dogs, and seized a number of other live animals, from a property in the Crays Hill area on 13 May.

In the eight weeks since, one man has been charged with a number of offences and two people have been arrested and remain on conditional police bail.

A trial date has been set for April 2026.

A force spokesperson said: "We understand the local community’s concerns following the distressing discovery of dog remains at a property in Crays Hill in April.

"We continue to work with the Crown Prosecution Service and others to build a strong case based on evidence secured.

"This vital ongoing work is painstaking, we are committed to ensuring every piece of evidence is reviewed.

"We do appreciate the emotional toll this case has taken on the local community, please be assured that our team, supported by specialists, continue to work tirelessly.

"You want answers and justice for all the animals involved, we share this and thank you for the information you have provided."
