Authorities have reported a rise in the number of people trespassing on a Ministry of Defence (MOD) firing range in Shoeburyness.
QinetiQ, the contractor which runs the site, said there was an "inherent risk of unexploded objects", external.
It said it would introduce an 'amphibious vehicle' to increase patrols in the summer months.
"Anyone encountered by our patrols will be asked to leave the area. Please co-operate for your safety. Fines are applicable," said the company on X.
"Public use of the MOD foreshore between Shoebury Common and East Beach is prohibited. This means that no access is permitted for any purpose or reason, at any time. This is due to the historic use of the area involving explosive ordnance and the inherent risk of unexploded objects.
MOD Shoeburyness has been a weapons testing site for more than 170 years.
It covers 9,300 acres and employs about 300 people.
Each day, reports are published online, external warning of either gunfire or explosions in the area.
A Ministry of Defence spokesperson told us: “We take the safety of the public very seriously. While the risk of encountering unexploded ordnance washed up along the coast remains low, the risk is increased when trespassing on MOD-owned land.
“We ask the public to respect the signage and fencing that has been erected to keep them safe, and remind them that those caught trespassing may be subject to fines.”
