The search for a new Colchester United manager is underway, with the club urging interested candidates from 'outside the club' to apply for the top job.
Previous boss Wayne Brown was sacked at the weekend, following a 1 - nil loss to Grimsby Town and a poor run of results.
The Us have won just once so far this League Two season.
An 'interim management team' led by Steve Ball and assisted by Ross Embleton and Elliott Ward has been put in place before a new appointment is made.
In a statement on the club's website, Colchester United's Sporting Director Dmitri Halajko said:
"Following the chairman’s announcement on Sunday that Wayne Brown has been stood down from his role as First Team Head Coach, the recruitment process has already started to find a new First Team Head Coach who can take the club forward."
"Although Wayne has been relieved of his duties, he has built a good squad ready for his successor.
"I will now start a detailed process to identify those candidates that we believe are the best fit for the prestigious role of being Colchester United’s next First Team Head Coach.
"It’s a very important appointment so we must be thorough. However, we will also be working extremely hard to make the right choice as smoothly and as quickly as possible.
"While we are in the recruitment process, we felt that the right thing to do was to put a completely different management team in charge for those games that are to be played whilst we conduct our search.
"Steve (Ball) has ruled himself out of the process of taking the role past this period and will return to his role as Technical Director when a new First Team Head Coach is appointed.
"The decision not to include Joe Dunne, David Huzzey and Darren Smith in the interim team should not be seen as an indication that those staff members have departed the club and will not be involved again in the future.
"This selection process will be completely open, and we are actively encouraging applications from outside the club to ensure we find the right person for the job."
