Firefighters are tackling a serious fire at an industrial unit in Harlow this morning.

Crews were called to River Way at 5.22am.

On arrival a factory was 95% alight and 100% smoke-logged.

Crews from Harlow, Old Harlow, Stansted, Waltham Abbey, Wethersfield, Leaden Roding, Chelmsford, and Hertfordshire had limited access and worked hard to bring the blaze under control.

It's now been brought under control.

The emergency service says it expects traffic disruption for quite some time due to the amount of smoke in the area.

Nearby residents have also been encouraged to keep windows and doors closed.

Dorottya Spanyik said her husband had been working on a nightshift in the industrial unit when fire alarms sounded.

"My husband works there, he was there when the fire started before 6am," Ms Spanyik told the PA news agency.

"I'm not sure who alerted the fire brigade, because the whole night shift was still there when the fire alarms went off.

"And they are still there, but luckily no personal injury."
