The M25 in Essex is currently closed in both directions between junctions 30 (Dartford) and 29 (Romford) due to a vehicle fire. National Highways reports that a HGV fully laden with car tyres had caught alight.
The fire service is currently tackling the blaze with support from the police and National Highways staff.
Essex Police say that there have been no injuries reported at the scene.
National Highways said: "Due to the nature of the fire, it is still anticipated that the road will remain closed throughout the day, with resurfacing likely to be required."
A diversion route is now in place and National Highways are making plans to relieve traffic caught within the closed area of the motorway. Delays of at least one hour in the anti-clockwise direction are expected.
Motorists are advised by police to check before they travel and alter their routes accordingly.
