A man has been jailed after assaulting a police officer during an arrest in Grays earlier this year.

Rocky Price, 31, of Jesmond Road, Grays, was sentenced to 36 months in prison at Basildon Crown Court today.

On the evening of 28 February, an officer from the Grays Local Policing Team responded to reports of an assault and spotted Price on Lodge Lane, matching the suspect’s description.

Price, who was wanted on recall to prison, attempted to flee but was caught by the officer. During the struggle, Price managed to grab the officer’s Taser, but it was quickly recovered and he was arrested with help from attending officers.

He later admitted to assaulting a police officer, assaulting his brother, causing actual bodily harm and possession of a firearm (a Taser) with intent to cause fear of violence.

Price was also ordered to pay a £228 victim surcharge.
