A pub in Essex has decided to put in extra security measures to combat the rising cases of spiking in the county.

Yates, Colchester said that they will employ stricter entrance checks and have in place Guest Assistant staff, who people can approach if they feel vulnerable or unwell. These employees will wear neon armbands, so that they are easily identifiable.

The move comes as young clubbers in Essex boycotted pubs and nightclubs last night to highlight the issue. In recent weeks, incidences of spiking by injection has become a particular cause of concern.

A spokesperson for the pub told us: "The safety of our guests and our team, has always been, and remains, our number one priority and we continually review our safety and security procedures to ensure our customers and staff remain safe.

"We treat all allegations of spiking seriously and ask customers to bring this to our attention immediately should they have concerns their drinks have been tampered with."
