The Conservatives have taken a hit in Essex, as seven seats are lost to Labour, Reform UK and the Liberal Democrats.

Nigel Farage's win in Clacton has made all the headlines this morning, marking his eighth attempt to get a seat in Westminster a success.

The previously all-Conservative county has now split with several other parties claiming seats, as Sir Kier Starmer and the Labour party welcome their win in General Election.

Which Conservatives are now Essex MPs?

Former Business Secretary Kemi Badenoch has been re-elected in her newly-formed seat for North West Essex, after formerly standing in Saffron Walden.

Likewise for James Cleverly, the Conservative cabinet member has kept hold of his seat in Braintree.

There was a new win for controversial Conservative choice Richard Holden, who won his seat in Basildon and Billericay by a majority of just 20.

Rebecca Harris in Castle Point and Alex Burghart in Brentwood and Ongar both remain in their seats, with Bernard Jenkin also keeping a majority for his constituency of Harwich and North Essex.

Mark Francois remains in Rayleigh and Wickford, whilst John Whittingdale also keeps hold of his seat in Maldon.

Dame Priti Patel has also secured her place in Witham for another term.

Who are our new MPs?

Southend has seen the blue wall fall, with Conservatives Anna Firth and Sir James Duddridge losing seats.

In a landmark win, that sees Southend welcome its first ever Labour MPs, Bayo Alaba takes control of Rochford and Southend East, with David Burton-Sampson elected in Southend West and Leigh.

Meanwhile there's been another historic turnover in Chelmsford, where Conservative Vicky Ford has lost her seat to Liberal Democrat Marie Goldman.

The constituency had been Conservative since 1950.

The big news of the morning, for the country, not just in Essex, was Nigel Farage's win in Clacton-on-Sea, seizing the seat from Giles Watling.

It's the Reform UK leader's eighth attempt to get a seat in Westminster - his first success.

Labour also have taken wins in Colchester and Harlow, with Pam Cox and Chris Vince elected respectively.

Labour's Jen Craft has also stolen the seat in Thurrock - after a landmark win for the party there earlier this year in the local elections.

Counting has paused at Basildon South & East Thurrock and will resume at 2pm for a full recount.
