Extra funding available for Essex food banks
Essex County Council has launched another £90,000 funding pot to support vulnerable residents
Foodbanks and other groups or projects which support vulnerable people in Essex are being urged to apply for a share of £90,000 to continue services.
Essex County Council is offering grants of up to £2,000 to help organisations provide food hampers or packages to those most in need and affected by Covid-19.
Councillor Louise McKinlay, Cabinet Member for Children and Families, explained the pandemic has had a big impact on people in the county.
She said:
"There are clearly more people in the current environment who are needing support that they otherwise wouldn't have ever called upon.
"To be able to give the food banks and the associated food distribution groups that additional financial support is obviously crucial."
The grants are being administered by Essex Association of Local Councils and applications are open until 5th February.
Cllr McKinlay added:
"We remain committed to helping Essex residents who’ve been hit by the pandemic to put food on their tables and to keep their families warm and safe.
"This latest pot will once again provide vital funds for food banks and other community food projects that have been working so hard since last March, to continue to support local families."
